MORE THAN DISTRIBUTION. PARTNERSHIP.

CUSTOMER

SPS is the world's largest distributor of orthotics and prosthetics products. Headquarted in Alpharetta, Georgia, SPS stocks over 327,000 products and manages approximately 16,000 SKUs.

CHALLENGE

  • Find a cost-effective method to measure and weigh all SKUs before implementing a future Warehouse Management System to ensure main database accuracy.

SOLUTION

The Cubiscan 100. It standardizes measurements, eliminating human error and manual data entry. The CS 100 uses ultrasound sensing technology to produce accurate dimensional data.

RESULTS

  • Accurate main database of product dimensions
  • Ability to ship product within 1-2 days to 98% of nation-wide customers
THE STRENGTH BEHIND SPS ORTHOTICS AND PROSTHETICS

SPS is the world’s largest distributor of orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) products with a 54-year history of delivering quality, efficiency and affordable prices. Headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia, SPS is an industry leader with more than 235,000 square feet of distribution space within five U.S. distribution centers. The company stocks over 327,000 products and ships within 1-2 days to 98 percent of its nation-wide customers. As SPS continues into its second half-century, the company is looking for ways to maintain its leading industry edge. Enter Cubiscan.

CUBISCAN 100 POWER AND AGILITY

This integrated cubing and weighing system was designed to deliver total control in any distribution center. From storage location selection and order picking to carton selection and shipment planning, it offers fast, accurate and comprehensive data, along with the unprecedented ability to remove human error and protect data integrity.

In addition to the cubing system's powerful potential when it comes to distribution, the Cubiscan is also a valuable manifesting tool. Tested and certified as a type-approved, legal-for-trade cubing and weighing device, the Cubiscan 100 offers access to foolproof dimensional-based shipping charges, while allowing carriers to easily audit incoming freight. This innovative device also offers improved safety for both operators and package contents thanks to sensing technology.

A modular design enables user-friendly setup and maintenance, while an integrated digital display and control panel allows fingertip control. Sophisticated software delivers numerical dimensions and weight via an instantaneous three-dimensional graphic representation.

Hundreds of users all over the country rely on the Cubiscan 100 to optimize the use of their space, improve efficiency and generate increased revenue.

THE CUBISCAN AND SPS SUCCESS

According to Dan Malone, Distribution General Manager at SPS, the company currently has approximately 16,000 SKUs, and ships 1,000 boxes every day out of the Atlanta warehouse alone. The Atlanta DC receives 500 boxes daily.  After Malone had the opportunity to witness the advanced cubing and weighing system in action and observed its superiority to the manual process currently being used by SPS, the company brought in the Cubiscan 100, a sophisticated dimensioning system from Quantronix.

Currently lacking a WMS, SPS was looking for a way to effectively weigh and measure all products prior to the implementation of a WMS. Housed within SPS’s Alpharetta DC, the Cubiscan cubing system is used to collect accurate weight and dimensions. The collected data is currently stored in SPS’s legacy system; eventually, it will be seamlessly exported to the WMS thanks to the power of Cubiscan.

REAPING THE BENEFITS OF ACCURATE DIMENSIONS

Prior to integrating the Cubiscan 100 from Quantronix into its dimensioning processes, SPS did not have access to an optimized method for weighing and measuring. This resulted in wasted time, human error, and compromised data integrity. The Cubiscan cubing system eliminates these issues and yields data that is safe, streamlined, and reliable.

Since consolidating the dimensioning process with the Cubiscan, SPS aspires toward significant advancements in consistency and accuracy. SPS joins leading companies, such as Decker’s Outdoor, MultiAd, Trommer & Associates, UBD and the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, in utilizing Cubiscan’s powerful technology from Quantronix.
