CIS Integrated SICK equipment systems troubleshooting (Dims & Barcode)

An integrated SICK system which measures dimensions, and reads the barcodes on a box as one complete process was often used in early CIS equipment installations.  This system is usually paired with a conveyorized scale.  OCS or Weightronix Weighlegs are the most common scale types used.  This type of system is usually very robust, and when there are issues it is most likely one of the following conditions.

First, the Photo Eye trigger for the SICK system is out of alignment, or not functioning properly.  Symptoms usually include no measurement or barcode data at all, and no red laser beams from the scanners.

Solution:   Ensure that the photo eye trigger at the entry end of the system is aligned and functioning properly.  This is often integrated with the scale, and the trigger comes from the Scale entry photo eye.

Second, the data connection to the Qbit/Cubiscan software is not established.

Solution:  If restarting the software windows does not establish a connection to the SICK integrated system, verify that all network cable connections to the system are working, and Power Cycle the SICK equipment/system.  Once it has rebooted (30 seconds minimum) start the Cubiscan Software windows again, and check for successful connection status.

Third, if the beams from the dimensioners and scanners do not turn on, and no data is transmitted...

Solution: verify that the speed sensor wheel on the bottom of the conveyor belt is functioning.   The integrated system does depend on conveyor movement signals to function.

Fourth, If beams turn on, but the data indicates an error in measurements, or NoRead for barcodes...

Solution:  Check the space in front of the sensor windows down to the belt surface, and make sure there are no spider webs or other obstructions that could interfere with the sensor function.  The sensors will focus on the nearest object detected, even spider webs or cables hanging in their field of view. Make sure the windows on the sensors are clean as well.
