OCS Scale | Belt is off to one side, Belt Alignment issue.

The conveyor belt on the OCS scale is running off one side and damaging the belt.

While this is not a common condition, there are a number of possible causes.  Typically it is the result of a side bar being added to push the packages over while they pass over the scale.  This makes the packages push on the belt in a sideways direction, and in turn pushes the belt out of alignment.   This also interferes with the weighing process, and not in a good way.  This is the most common cause.   The solution is to align the scale assembly at the feet on the floor so that the boxes can naturally flow into the next conveyor section without needing a guide rail to keep them from hitting the next corner.  The scale pictured below had exactly what was described above occur.  A worn or damaged belt can also result in alignment issues over time. In some cases, the Scale Conveyor does need to have alignment adjustments made.  This isn't necessarily a difficult process, but it takes some time to fully observe the final results before the job is done.  Very fine adjustments are all that are typically needed.   The entry end of the scale has an adjustable roller for tension, and steering purposes.  There are adjustment bolts and securing Torx screws on both sides (Pictured Below).  Increasing the tension on one side will push the belt toward the other side.  Decreasing tension will let the belt come toward that edge.   Be careful not to over tension, under tension, or run the belt off track.  If it gets too far off on either side it will damage the belt, and potentially the machine.   After any adjustments are made, be sure to observe the belt function regularly over the next 30 minutes or longer with it running to ensure it is holding where it was set.  It can take a while before it wanders off on it's own.  Be patient and ensure things are all tightened back down at the end.
